Mason Tillman Associates, Ltd. (Mason Tillman) recently hosted two business assistance meetings in East Oakland for local business owners regarding AC Transit's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
Business owners learned about the latest construction news as well as the City of Oakland's Business Assistance Fund (BAF) and Mason Tillman's Technical Assistance Program. Participants voiced their concerns to AC Transit and the City of Oakland regarding the impact of the project on their business operations. Concerns included: Permanent loss of parking and how it affects revenue; Communication regarding the construction schedule and staging; and limited uses of the Business Assistance Fund.
Mason Tillman along with their partners connected business owners to resources available, such as marketing, business advising, and technical assistance services. In attendance were: the City of Oakland - Façade Improvement Program; AC Transit; Main Street Launch; Alameda County Small Business Development Center / Oakland Business Assistance Center; Oakland Private Industry Council; Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce; and the Latin Business Network Group.
Businesses along the BRT route are eligible for technical assistance services before, during, and after BRT construction. They may also be eligible for funding through the Business Assistance Fund (BAF) for permanent impacts due to the BRT.
